Policies and Procedures
REGISTRATION
A nonrefundable registration fee of $50 is due at the time of enrollment. This fee covers the student’s first set of music books and a practice notebook.
TUITION
The value of the year’s tuition is divided into twelve (12) equal monthly installments. While the number of lessons may vary each month, the monthly tuition remains the same. For students in their first year, tuition will be prorated based on the month they begin lessons. All payments are due on the 1st of each month.
A monthly invoice will be provided, detailing any additional fees for music, materials, festivals, contests, etc. Payments can be made via check or by credit card through PayPal. Please note that credit card payments incur a $3% processing fee per transaction. Please make all checks payable to Jewel Connor.
REDUCED TUITION AND DISCOUNTS
Students facing financial challenges may be eligible for a reduced tuition rate at their piano instructor’s discretion.
Family Discounts are available for families with 2 or more students enrolled at Joy Piano Studio. Please contact Ms. Connor for more information.
LATE FEES
Payment is due on the 1st of each month. A late fee of $35 will be applied to payments received after the 7th of the month. If payment is not received by the second lesson of the month, the student will forfeit that lesson, and lessons will be suspended until full payment is made. A $25 re-processing fee will be charged for insufficient funds (INSF) or declined payments.
SCHEDULE
The Joy Piano Studio calendar year runs from January through December and consists of 44 teaching weeks. Any changes or updates to the schedule during the year will be promptly communicated to students and their guardian(s) during their lesson, via email, and on the studio website.
ONLINE POLICY
Your piano instructor may decide to change lessons from in-person to online due to illness or bad weather.
Fully remote lessons are only available at the Mastery and Craft level. Hybrid and remote lessons will be offered at the sole discretion of your piano instructor.
MAKEUP LESSONS
Ms. Connor must be notified of any planned absence at least 24 hours in advance. We offer TWO options for makeup lessons during the Fall and Spring Semesters:
- Lessons may be held virtually at the student’s scheduled time if they are ill, experiencing transportation issues, have weather-related travel concerns, or are facing any other circumstances that would prevent in-person attendance.
- The student may submit a video performing their assigned pieces for their teacher to view, offer feedback, and provide further instruction if they are unable to attend their scheduled lesson in-person or virtually. All videos must be submitted to the teacher at least 72-hours before the student’s next lesson in order to receive virtual feedback.
- We understand that summer can be a busy time with unpredictable travel plans. In-person makeup lessons will be available during the Summer Semester only, at the instructor’s discretion, and scheduled on a mutually agreed-upon alternative date.
WITHDRAWAL
If a student must withdraw, a 30-DAY WRITTEN NOTICE IS REQUIRED. If a 30-day written notice is not provided, the student is still responsible for the tuition to cover the 30-day period. Students who withdraw during the term and wish to re-enroll may be placed on a new lesson day and time due to availability at the time of re-enrollment.
EXPULSION
Under certain circumstances, a student may be asked to discontinue their music lessons.
These circumstances include but are not limited to: 1) failure to pay tuition, 2) excessive absenteeism or tardiness, 3) failure to participate in required events, 4) repeated failure to prepare assignments, and 5) consistent inappropriate behavior. Parents will be notified, and the student will be placed on a 30-day probationary period. If the issue persists at the end of this period, lessons will be discontinued.
PLAYING INSTRUMENT
Please keep your instrument in good playing condition.
Each student is expected to practice on an 88-key digital keyboard or acoustic piano in good condition. The piano should have weighted keys, volume that is responsive to touch, and a damper (sustain) pedal.
Each student is required to have a working metronome and to use it as their instructor advises.
LEARNING AND PERFORMANCE ENVIRONMENTS
While piano lessons will be held at Ms. Connor’s home studio, other events such as recitals, festivals, and music theory tests may take place at various locations within the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.
Students are expected to arrive fully prepared for their scheduled lessons.
Students, parents, and guardians attending recitals, festivals, or other performance events as observers should do so with respect, listening attentively and refraining from disrupting the performers.
PARENT/GUARDIAN INVOLVEMENT
Parents and guardians are encouraged to actively engage in the student’s musical development and invest in their progress throughout the calendar year.
Parents are welcome to observe the student’s private lessons. Any parents or siblings present during the lesson are expected to observe quietly and not disturb ongoing lessons.
Parent-Teacher conferences will be scheduled twice a year so that parents meet with their instructor to discuss the student’s progress.
STUDENT PICKUP
Parents and guardians are required to pick up the student no more than 5 minutes after their lesson ends.
POLICY AGREEMENT
Upon registration, you will be required to sign an agreement confirming that you have read and agree to adhere to the policies of Joy Piano Studio as outlined above. This agreement will remain valid for the duration of the student’s enrollment at Joy Piano Studio.
